Clear Audio is a german manufacturer of high-end turntables. The brand is new to AV MAX. When it comes to excellent home-entertainment products, German manufacturers are known for their expertise in manufacturing top-notch performers. With Concept turntable we wished to see first-class performance and build quality. Also, it had the responsibility to soothe our ears with intense and enjoyable musical moments as at times we get fatigued by the sound of all the digital music that is around us.
Out of the Box
Firstly, the word turntables itself brings smiles and lights up people’s eyes whether or not you are an audiophile. The one like Concept that we had in our studio, left us impressed with its dazzling looks and an extreme amount of finesse in its overall finish. The mattefinish of black charcoal colour and curved aluminium edges are the turntable’s star attraction. Along with fine look, functionality and longevity have also been taken care of. There is a big transparent plastic casing that comes with the turntable. This is needed because be it a ceiling fan, a computer’s PSU (Power supply unit) fan or even a record that rotates on a player, anything that rotates attracts dust and that’s why this dust cover should be used even when you are listening to the device.
They say that you get what you pay for, and this concept is an integral part of the audiophile world too. If you consider this turntable, you get a high-end record player for a high price. One look at it and you will know that a lot of effort has gone into making it a top performer. Firstly let us start with the build quality and materials of the turntable. The turntable has an aluminium edge trim around it, the top surface of the turntable is coated with polymer and the platter is built of a metal and sports a one-piece finish. This is very crucial as heavier the platter lesser the rotation wobble and much better precision in the contact between the needle and the record’s grooves. There is a flat belt-drive system that neatly hides below the platter and this is powered by a DC driven motor. The DC adaptor to drive this motor comes packaged with the turntable. The Concept MC turntable is capable of spinning records efficiently at 33 1/3, 45 and the older 78 RPM records. Moreover, the signal level that arises out of the pre-attached RCA cables is around 3.3mV (1 kHz) but you need not worry of this if your stereo integrated amplifier or AV receiver has a phono-input. The phono-input on these amplification devices takes care of low level signals, equalization processes that were done while recording and cutting the songs to the vinyl. On the tone arm there is cueing device* which is very essential to every record.
